THE REAL VOYAGE OF DISCOVERY CONSISTS NOT IN SEEKING NEW LANDSCAPES, BUT IN HAVING NEW EYES. ~ MARCEL PROUST
Wanderlust: a strong longing for or impulse for wandering; a strong desire to travel
Though I’ve always been afflicted…or blessed…with wanderlust, it’s only been in the past 15 years or so that I’ve been able to regularly indulge this urge, thanks to my husband, Kevin, and his eagerness to do the same. As you’ll see below, another thing we share is a love of photography, something we also indulge freely whenever we find ourselves somewhere new.
What began with a 50th birthday trip (mine) to France and Italy in 2004 has led us around the US, Europe, and South America, including trips to
Though Kevin and I typically travel together, a trek to Portugal in May 2019 with my dear friend Mary also fulfilled the guiding rule of travel, as laid down by Ernest Hemingway: “Never go on trips with anyone you do not love.”
Most recently, however, it was my solo journey to Tuscany in October 2019 for a week at the first Rebirth Your Book retreat hosted by editor/writer Allison K. Williams (of Guerilla Memoir fame) in Certaldo Alto, that set the course for an additional two weeks wandering through the region with Kevin. I can’t imagine a better reason to travel than an intense six days devoted to sculpting this lump-of-clay story of mine into something worthy of reading, all in a setting too beautiful and inspiring to truly capture in images. Yet the photographer in me was compelled to try.
I love to share our journeys, from planning to execution to post-travel reflection. This is a work-in- progress. Scroll down for a taste of what intrigues us, check back for updates and to what’s next for us, and feel free to get in touch to chat about your own travels.
